about

The seventh release of the label behind the Milanese party Rollover Milano is entrusted to the founders, the Rollover Djs, who have reached their third EP on their label.

‘Just a Little Bit in My Pocket’ was recorded in the studio of “Cittadella degli Artisti” in Molfetta, Puglia in January 2021 during the second wave of Covid that forced Italy to face another national lockdown.

Imagine being at a festival on an island somewhere in Europe in the late 70s that begins at sunset and ends with the first light of dawn. The bands on stage deliver the perfect soundtrack while our gaze contemplate the sea and the ever changing colours of the sky. This dream is a the core of the EP, conceived at a time when travelling in real life was impossible, so why not do it with your mind ?!

Unlike previous works, with this EP Rollover Djs venture into uncharted territories, definetely less dancefloor oriented. It begins with the emotional ambient of ‘From Puglia to José’, characterised by a a Pat Metheny-esque guitar, the song is a declared homage to the DJ of the Ibizan sunsets José Padilla who passed away last year. The EP continues with slow and groovy rhythm of ‘Cigarette Please’.

‘Play on’ is the classic moment of a festival in which a funky rock band performs the most lysergic song of their repertoire and the guitarist shows off his solo skills, while the title track is probably the most complex song of the release; cosmic and groovy, bass and a jazzy Ibanez guitar engaging a conversation throughout the whole song, the hypnotic sound of the Korg Mono Poly synth in full ‘70s style…

And then ‘Start Something New’ is the real surprise of the EP: An unstoppable slow-disco jam, the song inspires some healthy optimism and Nic Cester’s cheerful and uplifting vocals revive distant memories of happier times, which may come back very soon. Electric bass, percussion and analog synths topped by Nic unmistakable voice are the key ingredients of this entrancing groover, a song that cheekily tilts hat to ‘80s summer hits. A funk-driven guitar completes this buoyant single, demanding immediate return to the dancefloor.
